Playing and Grainiing

Greetings Gentle Readers,

So here we are, it's Friday and I've decided to have a little fun and play with the rooms a bit...and to do some wood graining while I'm at it. The best part of this project is that all the rooms are so interchangable. I've decided to move the dining room from the ground floor to the first and to make he former dining room a music room and I started decorating the walls of the library....it's become a bit more Liberty of London, but it's still working with the rest of the house.....

The stained and grained doors with gilt paper in gray and gold..I love that it looks green.

Two views of the room. One as a library.

The other as a very moody bed room

But I did start the real bed room. Decided that it's going to be Farrow & Ball 'Shaded White' and I'm thinking I might splurge on a very expensive embroidered linen from Chelsea Textiles for the walls.

The new dining room will be off the main living room. Think it's a much better place for it. The walls are  Farrow and Ball 'Old White' and the classical crown [ see 1st pic] is from Sue Cook.

Well, that's all I've got till my materials arrive..need those moldings and fireplaces.....guess I can work on making some floors.....

Stay warm.

What Am I Doing Today: The Library

Greetings Gentle Readers,

I've been working diligently on my still unnamed house, both on interiors and furnishing and so here are a few current pictures of the existing library and the new one that I am working on.

Chinese export paper and a Georgian scheme will become a ground floor sitting room or perhaps a music room.

Below is the new library in a William IV style. The paneling will be stained or perhaps painted. I went out and bought some Farrow and Ball tins today, so eventually the unfinished rooms will all have a good finish on their walls.

I've divided the space into two seating areas, the back wall will have a fireplace and a door, to nowhere, just to make it seem as if the house continues.

The bookshelves  have two pull out book tables and a shelf for a yet to be created collection of Greek pots. I want this room to be high style but comfy, so the scheme will be a bit more old fashioned than the rest of the house, but I may throw in an odd chair or painting.

So slowly it continues......it's just like doing up a real house, except smaller....and less expensive...thank goodness.

Until next time.

PROGRESS!

Greetings Gentle Readers,

So, I've been working feverishly  since I last wrote, and so, the house progresses.
Below is a pic of the entire thing with it's 8 rooms and the beginnings of their decoration.

The dining room with it's plaster walls and marble floors. A neoclassical fireplace and crown molding.

Below we look towards the front hall which is paneled in mahogany.....still working on detailing it with small trim and the ceiling has been worked out with a series of beams. I am still waiting for plaster capitals and bases from Sue Cook to finish the pilasters in this room. They were originally meant to be used outside, but I didn't read the scale....1:6 so too small for there, but perfect for here.
Standard doors with an overdoor and plinth blocks make it look more substantial....all the little bits of glue are now  dry and sanded off. The Indian statue is an antique bit I had on a shelf and now at home on a small side table turned on it's side...still have to stain doors and paint out trim...but that will keep.

One of 4 chairs from Kenneth at Small World Minis are really nice quality.

My home made sideboard with a painting by my friend, Jimmy Bloom.....decided that this would be  modern house with high style furnishings and modern art.

Waiting for the Regency style table and a great chandelier that I found at J Getzan Dolllhouse Miniatures...but, as with all things, this will be a long process and take a good bit of time... meanwhile, I've invited my artist friends to send any small work they'd like to contribute to the 'collectors'.

Until next time.

What Am I Doing Today: More Floors!

Greetings Gentle Readers,

So decisions made, the floor on the ground floor dining room is the same as the entrance hall, with slight color variation. I was torn as to whether to do wood and decided that there would be more flexibility should the decoration of the walls change if the floors were the same in two adjacent rooms.

Looking inside the room. The fireplace is now out in the room where it will live, have to complete the card walls AND I have my circuit lighting, so I can install that and then finish all the walls properly.

Looking at the dining room into the hall.

Well, that's it for today...have to finish up the stair hall now that I have more mahogany for the walls.

Until next time.

What Am I Doing Today: Faux Marble Floors

Greetings,

So here we are in the entrance hall, been working on paneling which I will show when it's stained....almost done, but keep running out of materials. So in the meantime, I had materials to make some tile for the floors, I had planned to buy tile, but thought that I could make my own....below is a pic showing the placement, I've been working on specific tiles as I don't want it to look too even and I also want a small amount of pattern, Think i'm finally happy with the arrangement as it looks pretty real and as always...old, old, old..

1x16 make 16 1x1 tiles. I paint the plank and then cut them out and then go back and retouch the edges.

Tiles with some pattern in between the almost solids.

What Am I Doing Today: Progress

Greetings Dear Readers,

So, I'm finally making some progress on the house, I received some bits of trim from Sue Cook in the UK and started making the downstairs drawing room. It will live opposite the Georgian paneled room with the  stair hall in between....Finally got the stairs as well. so maybe I can get a few rooms fleshed out in the next few weeks......

A little trick I learned is that it's much easier to make the rooms up on card stock and then insert each wall.

The bookcase will eventually be a part of the library.

Slow going....but gives an idea of what the house will do. the room upstairs will live to the left o the stairs...and I have yet to get my circuit lighting kit....BUT I did get the Doric trim for the out side....

Well, that's it for today....have to get to work...

What Am I doing Today: Painting walls and making a pier table

Greetings,

So, I am still awaiting the fireplace and crowns for the 'house' and in the meantime, I've started making paneling...I want this to look like an old thing so I've painted up the wood with a few glazes. This will be the first floor parlor or perhaps a music room...or the dining room...haven't yet made up my mind.

A pair of acanthus leaf brackets and a small piece of wood will become a william IV style console

Draw out the proportions...I am not a wood worker of any kind and luckily, I'm going for charm, not perfection.

Almost done, have to get some mercury glass for the back and need to faux paint rosewood and gild the legs and have to make a marble top...but you get the idea...

So now off to get some paint and gold leaf....my parquet flooring bits came in...OH NO!

Console [ here unfinished] will live in the entrance along with four 19th c prints that I found in a box....have a few gaps to fill....just figuring out to to cope properly....but it's got a look.

What Am I Doing Today.....Panelling

Greetings Gentle Readers,

So here I am, working on the house some more...decided to do a paneled room with Chinese paper....so much for Georgian lite...Thinking this may be painted be a dark peacock blue with a glaze on top or or maybe a buff color.....luckily Farrow and Ball sells small tins! started thinking it was going to be for a sitting room, then it got a bit too closed off so I added an archway...which means it will end up being the dining room or perhaps the entrance with stairs beyond. It could also be a great bathroom.....but, I'm not really planning on having one or a kitchen.....

Some random pieces to give me perspective of what it will do. Decided to make all of the walls outside the house on art paper and then I will install the entire wall into rooms...that way I can really work out the schemes.

The entrance hall floor made from trace paper until the tile arrives from the UK. There might be a fireplace on one of the walls stairway beyond will be cantilevered from the back wall so there will be room for a settee or perhaps a table underneath. For now here's a mod coffee table with Diana and books. The walls are just mock ups.

Just for fun. The wallpaper I was thinking of using in the bed room....doesn't really work with the chinese, but wanted to give the impression of something beyond. I was able to 'win' some globes at auction for the library....this one is actually a pencil sharpener. The chair is one of a pair from Bespaq...have to figure out how to upholster these...thinking they will eventually live in the library or drawing room.

The decoration of this house is going to be very eclectic....pretty much a 'collector's' house with lots of odd bits and pieces an a healthy mix of modern art and 'antique' styles. Having fun playing.....hope all of you are safe and dry.

Until next time.

What Am I Doing Today...putting the cart before the horse

So My house is sort of built....waiting for a few more bits of wood that I needed....today, I hope....and I've bought trim that hasn't arrived, but the bed room furniture came...put the bed together....luckily, the chaise came in one piece...Thinking that I might paint this little wooden furniture creamy greige...

An idea of what the bed room will do....tho I may switch it to the other side of house....and I'm thinking the library should be off the bed room.....floorplans are a changing!

Waiting for the floors and working on walls....will go buy paint for my trim and ceilings if Home Depot is open

Fringe for the bed hangings.....have to get rid or that shiny red...

What I'm Looking At Today: Consoles

So, in my internet shopping spree, I came across a company in Spain that makes these reproduction consoles..they are available as boxes or with tiny drawers....while I like the idea of drawers, I'm thinking that I don't need to go crazy, so boxes it is...and anyway they cost double the other other way...and this might turn into an Auntie Mame affair, which means redecoration every season....

A Russian style cabinet

Two Italian consoles
